Community Fix-It Fair Recap

How We Came Together to Repair and Connect on October 19, 2024!

Our Free Community Fix-It Fair brought together neighbors, volunteers, and expert fixers for an inspiring day of repair and community building. Hosted at Seattle Makers the event saw a great turnout with over 50 attendees, many of whom walked in with items that might have otherwise ended up in the trash.

Here’s what some attendees said about what they enjoyed most:

  • “The enthusiasm and knowledge and technicals of all the volunteers or fixers. Such kind, lovely people.”

  • “Friendly volunteers and awesome to be able to use my items again.”

  • “Learned something new, chatted with the volunteer, and felt the warmth of their attitude.”

Repair highlights:

  • Sewing Repairs: From torn seams to broken zippers to outdoor gear, sewing projects were tackled helping people save their favorite garments.

  • Electronics & Appliances: Several small appliances like rice cookers, vacuums, fans, and lamps were fixed—and in one case a vacuum received a new 3D printed part!

  • Sharpening Services: Knives and tools were restored to their former sharpness.

Thank You to those who made it possible

We couldn’t have done it without our collaborators from Seattle REconomy, Repair Economy WA, Seattle Makers, and Community Makers as well as the amazing team of 20 fixers and volunteers who donated their time and skills to make this event happen. Thank you to everyone who participated and made the day special—as an attendee, a volunteer fixer, or a supporter!
